Jumeirah Lakes Towers is fast becoming quite the happening place! It doesn’t just have the Bonnington and McGettigan’s at its heart, but there are more & more events taking place in the local area.

Our basketballers are champions & our towels have won, too! Don’t even mention our bread or petits fours!

March has been quite the month so far for us here in Jumeirah Lakes Towers!

First up, our hotel basketball team won the 2013 Dubai inter-hotel championship! Congratulations to Cezar & his team!

Secondly, our hotel towels were awarded the 2013 UAE Fluffies Award for the fluffiest hotel towels in the United Arab Emirates. Our towel won in the contest, which was launched by radio station Dubai 92 and judged by the stations breakfast show presenters Catboy and Posh Anna together with Katie Heskett from Ahlan!. The Bonnington towel won based on its fluffiness, but also sheer size (see picture), beating the Moevenpick Ibn Battuta into 2nd place and also leaving towels from The Address Hotels + Resorts, Rotana, JW Marriott Marquee, and the One & Only trailing behind.

Thirdly, Gulfood 2013 finished last week and, like 2012, some of our chefs excelled in the show’s Salon Culinaire!

Congratulations to Nuwan Abeyrathna and Indika Wickramatunga! Nuwan won a bronze medal for his bread showpiece, while Indika got a merit for his petits fours display.

More laughter in JLT!

The Laughter Factory is coming back to JLT on Friday, 2nd November 2012! This month’s line-up promises a great show, so why not make an evening of it and come down early for dinner in our Cavendish Restaurant?

The show takes place in our Almas ballroom, just across the road from the Bonnington.

Doc Brown is an underground rapper who worked with, among others, De La Soul and Mark Ronson. In 2008, Doc Brown put down one mic and picked up another after working as a “slang consultant” on a Lenny Henry sitcom, written by Danny Robins and Dan Testell for Radio 4.

Jimmy McGhie’s career was kickstarted in 2005 after reaching the finals of the prestigious ‘BBC New Talent’ competition and performing in the ‘Amused Moose Hot Starlets Showcase’ at the Edinburgh Festival. He then began working full time as a stand-up comedian performing in theatres, clubs, arts centers and universities all over the country and abroad.

Alistair Barrie has been performing professionally for nearly an entire century… this one. Much in demand as both a headline act and MC, he has played all over the UK and Ireland, as well as further afield including the States, Australia, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Belgium, Prague, Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Norway, Hong Kong, Macau, Malta, Cyprus, Singapore, Bahrain, Indonesia, Mumbai, Athens (during riot season) and the middle of the North Sea.

You can also make a video (less than 1 minute long) and email it to us via bonningtontower@gmail.com and we’ll post it on our page for you.

The small print:

1. Entries can posted/emailed until 4 p.m. Dubai time on 24th of September
2. The best 3 entries will be selected by us and presented for final judging by our Facebook fans on 25th of September
3. Our Facebook fans will have from 25th – 30th September to vote for the winning cupcake
4. The winner will be announced on 1st October 2012
5. The winner will receive a voucher for an afternoon tea for 2 adults + 1 child in our Authors’ Lounge
6. Prize cannot be exchanged, sold, or transferred.
7. You must own the rights to the photos & videos you upload to our Facebook page – we will only accept original photos and reserve the right to delete fake photos/videos, unsuitable material, or media copied from other sources.
8. In the final round, the winner will be decided by votes from our Facebook community. Obvious fake votes will be deleted.
