The Bonnington featured in Stellar Magazine

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of welcoming guests from Stellar magazine and we just received a copy of the article they wrote while they were here.

Have you been to Healey’s lately? Say hello to Kerrie-Anne!

Have you been to our Healey’s Bar & Terrace recently? If so, you might have met our new resident artist, Kerrie-Anne.

Kerrie-Anne is a uniquely talented artist who takes great care in presenting you with profound, original captivating songs to hook you from the first note. Kerrie-Anne’s writing talent is accompanied by an “impressive voice” (Rolling Stone, 2011) of a 4 octave range with a specialism in soul, RnB, jazz and funk vocal style.

Like many singers across genres Kerrie-Anne began singing in church. At 5 years old she was singing for an audience of up to 1500 and from these events she grew in confidence and vocal maturity ensued. In the following years she toured the UK performing at various venues for a variety of charitable and festive occasions. At the tender age of 15 she wrote and arranged a song entitled ‘You Need To Go On’ which she entered into the the national ‘Premier Christian Radio Song Search 2002′, which aimed to recognize songwriting talent.

She enlisted the help of Sam West Productions (London) to produce the track. After many weeks of her song being aired, and continuously voted for by the public as ‘best song’ Kerrie-Anne was invited to perform her song as a finalist at Westminster Abbey in London. Despite being the youngest contestant in the competition she was voted as the most developed lyrics and sound, which supported her to win the competition.
Between 2006 -2008 Kerrie-Anne joined the Ican Foundation Choir. During this time she performed at numerous high profile events for national and international dignitaries including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, former Home Secretary David Blunkett and Bishop Desmond Tutu, to name a few. In 2007, in honor of South African Independence Day she performed for Nelson Mandela at the South African High Commission in London.
In 2010 Kerrie-Anne relocated to Dubai to pursue a career in international teaching. Upon this move she met and worked with one of Dubai’s esteemed house DJs, Frederick Stone. Together they worked on several commercial and soulful house tracks, which they anticipate to pitch to a number of house music production companies in Europe.

You can listen to Kerrie-Anne every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9.15 p.m. – midnight in Healey’s, plus she’s also performing in our Cavendish during Friday Brunch.

The Bonnington’s Chef Paul in the Chef of the Year Competition – Regional Final

Meet Paul Bussey, our Executive Sous Chef, who just landed a spot in the regional final of the 2012 Unilever Chef of the Year competition. Winning the regional heat would see him jet of to sunny South Africa for the finals in September this year!

Before joining the team at the Bonnington, Paul used to work for The Ivy, Rivington Grill, and Verre by Gordon Ramsey in Dubai. Prior to coming to the UAE, he could be found at Bluebird in London’s swish Chelsea neighbourhood and he also spent time working for Angela Hartnett at the Connaught in London.

Every year, Unilever Food Solutions provides innovative young chefs with the opportunity to prove their worth in the culinary world, by challenging them to create and produce the most original, utterly delicious, beautifully plated dishes.

Once again, the competition will be judged by several leading, respected figures in the culinary world.

New this year is the introduction of two exciting categories:

Creative Canapés and the Confectionery Showcase where chefs will have the opportunity to dazzle the judges in the following criteria:

  • Most Indulgent
  • Best Innovative Presentation
  • Best use of Unilever Food Solutions ingredients
  • Best Representation of Theme

The Dubai competition will take place at the prestigious Emirates Academy of Hospitality on Saturday, 2nd June, and Paul will have only 3 short hours to prepare a three course meal for 3 people from scratch and using only ingredients from the mystery basket list he’ll be given just before he’s ready to hit the kitchen.

We wish Chef Paul the best of luck and hope to see him represent the Bonnington and Dubai in South Africa in September!

Feel free to cheer Paul on by posting a message of support to our Facebook Pages, here or here, or by tweeting us and including the hashtag #gopaulgo

Guest Comments Wednesday & some April news!

Welcome to another edition of #guestcommentswednesday, our regular round-up of comments from the Golden Book in our lobby!

March was a busy month and April looks like it’ll be equally busy.

We’ve had a fabulous Easter brunch in our Cavendish Restaurant, and also hosted our monthly wine dinner, which in April had an Italian theme. Check out some of the “behind the scenes” pictures here.

Our Friday Family brunches are gaining traction and we’re currently running another competition on Facebook for lucky fans to win free brunches. Check it out here!

In other good news, our Assistant Chief Concierge, Ali Qassim Syed (see also here), has recently been honoured with membership in Les Clefs d’Or’s UAE chapter. Les Clefs d’O is the world’s most prestigious professional association for hotel concierges.

We’re switching off! Switch off, too!

On Saturday, 31st March, we will again be supporting the worldwide Earth Hour initiative. We have been taking part in the annual Earth Hour celebrations since 2008 and on Saturday, we will be switching off all external lights on our building for one hour between 8.30 – 9.30 p.m.

We will also be reducing light levels in our public areas and in the Cavendish Restaurant and Healey’s Bar & Terrace.

The Cavendish will offer an a la carte dinner menu by candle light, while Healey’s Terrace will be lit by torches and Healey’s Bar will serve flaming cocktails.

We hope you join us in marking this year’s Earth Hour! You can find out more about this initiative at http://www.earthhour.org.
