Ramadan 2011 Mubarak to all our readers, guests, associates, visitors, and friends!
Ramadan is the ninth lunar month of the Islamic calendar and occurs about 11 days earlier every Gregorian year.
The start and end of the month is determined by the sighting of the new moon. The word ‘Ramadan’ comes from the Arabic root word ‘Ramida’ meaning ‘scorched heat’ or ‘parched thirst’.
The month holds special importance since the Quran, the Holy Book of the Muslims, was first revealed to the Prophet during Ramadan. Furthermore, fasting is recognised by Muslims around the world as one of the 5 pillars of Islam; the others being faith, prayer, charity and the pilgrimage.
In this part of the world, the phrase used to greet during Ramadan, is ‘Ramadan Kareem’ meaning ‘Ramadan is generous’.
We are progressing through Ramadan with overall working hours reduced as per the UAE Labour Law, but, being a hotel, we never really sleep, of course.
During Ramadan, the opening times of some of our restaurants and bars will change:
Healey’s Bar & Terrace and the Pool Bar will remain closed throughout the Holy Month.
The Authors’ Lounge will be closed in the mornings and afternoons and only open from sunset to midnight.
McGettigan’s will be open daily from sunset until 1.30 a.m., but no live entertainment will take place and our popular iPaddy pub quiz night will also take a Ramadan break.
The Cavendish Restaurant will be open daily without breaks from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and everything in between. We offer a fabulous Iftar buffet every evening during Ramadan, too!
